When I started BlueRootsRadio in 2007 a website was required to be the licensee responsible for paying royalties to ASCAP, BMI and the other licensing entities in Canada and Europe. While it’s no longer required I’ve found a majority of listeners like to use it to launch the stream, see what’s been playing and check the current post.

I started BRR to fill the void in radio that was created by the corporate buyout of most stations turning them into Top 40 music machines regardless of the genre. I discovered radio in the 60’s when AM stations played a mix of British Invasion, Motown/Soul, Pop, Country, Psychedelic and more in every segment. It only got better in the 70’s when FM freeform stations popped up in commercial and college markets. This is the model BRR is keeping alive.
